Lamb Rogan Josh: A Classic Indian Lamb Curry
Rogan Josh is one of the best-known lamb curries and is traditionally associated with Kashmir. The dish is part of Kashmiri cuisine and has influences from Persian and Mughal cooking traditions.
The colour and spice profile of Rogan Josh can vary, but Kashmiri chillies are traditionally valued for their rich colour as well as their flavour.
Our Lamb Rogan Josh is a two-star, medium-hot curry prepared with tomato paste and fresh tomato. It offers a good balance of warmth and flavour without being overwhelmingly spicy.
Order it if: you want a classic, tomato-rich lamb curry with moderate heat.
Lamb Kurma: Mild, Creamy and Slightly Sweet
If you prefer mild Indian food, Lamb Kurma is an excellent choice. It is the mildest lamb curry on our menu and has a creamy, comforting flavour.
Our Lamb Kurma is prepared with lamb, coconut powder, almond, sugar and raisins. The combination creates a creamy sauce with a gentle sweetness.
With a one-star heat rating, it is suitable for guests who prefer mild flavours or are trying Indian curry for the first time.
Order it if: you enjoy mild, creamy curries with a subtle sweet flavour.
Allergy note: Our Lamb Kurma contains almonds and a creamy sauce. If you have a nut or dairy allergy, please contact our team before ordering so we can help you choose an appropriate dish.
Lamb Tikka Masala: Creamy with a Smoky Touch
If chicken tikka masala is already one of your favourites, our lamb version is worth trying.
Our Lamb Tikka Masala uses marinated lamb that is grilled before being cooked in a creamy sauce with sugar, cashew powder and almond slices.
Because the lamb is grilled first, it develops a gentle smoky flavour that adds another layer to the creamy sauce.
It has a two-star heat rating, making it a good option for guests who want flavour without intense chilli heat.
Order it if: you want a creamy lamb curry with a mild spice level and a smoky grilled flavour.
Lamb Bhuna: Rich, Thick and Savoury
Lamb Bhuna is ideal if you prefer a thicker and more concentrated curry sauce.
The bhuna cooking style involves cooking spices and onions down until the sauce becomes thick and clings to the meat. Our Lamb Bhuna combines lamb tikka with onions, tomatoes, ginger and garlic.
It is also included in our Shahjahan set menu, served with samosa, chicken tikka, pilau rice, naan and kheer.
Order it if: you prefer a rich, thick curry with plenty of onion, ginger and garlic flavour.
Lamb Saag: Lamb with Spinach
Looking for something different from a creamy curry? Lamb Saag combines tender lamb with spinach for a hearty but greener option.
Our Lamb Saag has a two-star heat rating. The spinach gives the dish an earthy flavour and makes it a great match for plain naan or rice.
Order it if: you want a hearty lamb dish with spinach and a lighter feel than creamy curries.
Lamb Jhal Friazi: Peppers, Vegetables and More Heat
If you enjoy vegetables and a little extra spice, Lamb Jhal Friazi is worth considering.
Our Lamb Jhal Friazi combines lamb with onions, tomatoes, green pepper, capsicum, ginger and garlic.
At three stars, it has noticeably more heat than Lamb Rogan Josh while the peppers and vegetables add freshness to the dish.
Order it if: you enjoy moderately spicy curries with peppers and plenty of vegetables.
Lamb Madras vs Lamb Vindaloo: Which Is Hotter?
For guests who enjoy spicy food, Lamb Madras and Lamb Vindaloo are the two hottest lamb curries on our menu.
Lamb Madras
Our Lamb Madras has a four-star heat rating. It is prepared with lemon in a thick gravy, giving the curry a tangy flavour alongside the chilli heat.
Order it if: you enjoy a hot curry with a noticeable lemony tang.
Lamb Vindaloo
Our Lamb Vindaloo is the hottest lamb curry on our menu, with a five-star rating.
It is prepared with potatoes in a thick gravy and is designed for guests who genuinely enjoy strong chilli heat.
Vindaloo has an interesting history. The dish developed in Goa from carne de vinha d’alhos, a Portuguese meat dish traditionally prepared with wine and garlic. Goan cooks adapted the preparation using vinegar and spices, eventually creating the style of vindaloo known today.
Order it if: you love chilli heat and want our spiciest lamb curry.
Lamb Dishes Beyond Curry
Not every lamb dish at Shah Jahan comes with a curry sauce.
Our tandoor menu includes lamb dishes from the tandoor, including lamb tikka and tandoori sheek kabab.
Lamb tikka consists of pieces of lamb marinated in tandoori sauce and cooked in the clay oven. Tandoori sheek kabab uses minced lamb combined with Indian spices before being grilled.
You can also try our tandoori mix starter, which includes lamb alongside chicken and king prawn.
